House of Representatives moves to stop Contract/Casual Job Employment in Nigeria

The House of Representative has moved to stop the act of keeping workers for long number of years as contract or casual staff in Nigeria. The bill sponsored by Mr Emmanuel Jime passed the Second reading and it is an amendment of the 2004 Labour act. The bill seeks to amend the number of years a worker can serve as a contract/casual staff to two years, after which the worker has to be converted to a permanent staff.
Mr Emmanuel Jime said that contract staff were made to serve too long as contract staff and creates discrimination among staff in the organisation and doesn’t help the economic well being of a contract/casual staff.
The Bill was precided over by Mr Emeka Ihedioha and member of the House of representatives applauded the bill and passed it for second reading in a voice vote.
