About the Events Manager Role

The Events Manager will lead OPay's events function, covering both OPay-led events and the company's participation in external industry events.

The position goes beyond traditional event planning. OPay is seeking a marketing professional who can understand the commercial purpose behind each event and connect event activities to measurable brand and business objectives.

The successful candidate will report to the IMC Lead and will also contribute to wider marketing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Event Strategy & Business Objectives

The Events Manager will:

  • Establish clear brand and commercial objectives for every event.
  • Plan events within the approved annual events budget.
  • Evaluate the value and return generated by each event.
  • Prepare event briefs covering objectives, target audience, budget, timelines and KPIs.

Planning & Event Execution

Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and delivering OPay's external events from concept through post-event evaluation.
  • Managing the complete event process, including guest lists, branding, logistics, event schedules and on-site coordination.
  • Working with sales, partnerships, brand, creative and PR teams to ensure events support wider campaigns and business plans.

Industry Events & Brand Visibility

The successful candidate will:

  • Research relevant events across the fintech, banking, retail, technology and SME sectors.
  • Assess conferences, exhibitions and industry events where OPay could participate, sponsor or secure speaking opportunities.
  • Manage OPay's presence at selected events, including booths, branding, speaking slots and on-site activities.
  • Develop relationships with event organisers and relevant industry bodies.

Wider Marketing Support

The role will also involve:

  • Supporting integrated marketing campaigns across different channels.
  • Planning and executing on-ground activations and BTL activities.
  • Supporting partnerships and sponsorship initiatives.
  • Preparing briefs for creative, content and production projects.
  • Reviewing project deliverables.
  • Coordinating agencies and external partners.
  • Supporting additional marketing projects assigned by the IMC Lead.

Budget & Vendor Management

The Events Manager will:

  • Prepare event budgets and detailed cost breakdowns.
  • Source and manage event vendors and agencies in accordance with company procurement procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of all event-related expenditure.

Reporting

The successful candidate will prepare reports covering:

  • Event results against agreed objectives.
  • Actual spending versus approved budgets.
  • Brand visibility and other relevant performance indicators.
  • Lessons learned and recommendations for future events.

Requirements

Must-Have

Candidates should have:

  • 4–6 years of marketing experience, including at least three years focused on events, agency or in-house marketing.
  • Experience organising corporate or brand events for 300+ guests.
  • Experience managing a company's presence at conferences, exhibitions or industry events.
  • Broader marketing experience covering campaigns, activations, partnerships or brand projects.
  • The ability to demonstrate how events and marketing activities contribute to business results.
  • Experience managing budgets and multiple vendors simultaneously.
  • Experience working within formal approval and procurement processes.
  • Strong written communication and reporting skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings or weekends when required.

Additional Advantages

The following qualifications and experience will be beneficial:

  • Previous experience in fintech, banking, FMCG or telecommunications.
  • Established relationships with event organisers and industry contacts in Nigeria.
  • Experience negotiating sponsorship arrangements or securing speaking opportunities.
  • A degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field.
