 The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Summary

  • We are seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of State Program Assistant in the Economic Office.

Duties

  • Under the supervision of the Deputy Economic Counselor, position will manage Post’s non-PD grants portfolio, including the Ambassador’s Special Self-Help program, the Democracy and Human Rights (DHRF) program, Julia Taft Fund for Refugees, PEPFAR Small Grants, Regional Environment Office Small Grants, and other non-Public Diplomacy grant opportunities the at the U. S. Mission in Nigeria, ensuring all federal assistance funds are awarded and liquidated according to their respective rules and regulations.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:

  • All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a high risk/public trust security clearance. 
  • All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.  
  • Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (6 weeks) upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Education Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of university studies in Liberal Arts, Business, Finance or Accounting is required.

  • You will be evaluated against the qualifications and requirements in this vacancy announcement.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of progressive experience working with NGOs, community groups, or private development is required.
  • Experience in project management, grant management, grant writing, contracting, vouchering, and budgeting is required.

Language: 

  • Fluent speaking/reading/writing in English is required.

Job Knowledge:

  • The position requires an understanding of local policies governing NGOs, as the position reviews legal documents issued by the host government to determine eligibility and legal status of organizations applying for grants.

Skills And Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Tact and cultural sensitivity in dealing with the public are required.  
  • Excellent computer skills, including utilization of programs such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook is required.
  • Basic bookkeeping, word processing, and database/spreadsheet abilities are required.
  • Excellent organizational skills are required.  Basic calculation and budgeting skills using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to create overall program and individual grant budgets and to monitor financial status of individual projects.
  • Must have typing skills where accuracy is required, but speed is not important.
  • Ability to set priorities and deadlines is required.  
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision is required. 

Salary
USD $53,945 /Per Year.
