The Role: Financial Recovery Specialist

Job Title: Collections Officer

Location: Ikeja, Lagos

Employment Type: Contract

As a Collections Officer, you will be crucial in managing our debtor list. Your main objective will be to contact clients regarding their overdue overdrafts, negotiate suitable payment arrangements, and ensure payments are made as quickly as possible. Your success directly contributes to reducing company losses.

Key Responsibilities: Negotiation and Compliance

You will manage the entire collection process, utilizing strong communication and negotiation to achieve successful financial outcomes:

  • Debtor Management: Regularly review the company debtor list to prioritize outreach and action.

  • Customer Contact: Proactively contact customers to inform them of their overdue bills and outstanding overdrafts.

  • Payment Negotiation: Negotiate and advise customers on suitable payment plans and available methods of payment.

  • Documentation: Write final notice warnings to customers when payments remain outstanding.

  • Legal & Third-Party Liaison: Institute legal action when necessary and liaise with lawyers and insurance agencies to facilitate complex payments.

  • Customer Service: Respond to customer queries regarding their accounts and collection processes.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous and accurate customer payment records.

  • Reporting: Prepare customer financial statements for banks and the state credit department as required.

💡 Required Skill Set: Expertise and Attitude

We are looking for a resilient, detail-oriented professional with a strong aptitude for negotiation:

  • Education: BSc, HND, or ND holder in Accounting, Business Management, or a similar related field.

  • Experience: Previous experience working as a Collections Officer is mandatory.

  • Core Skills: Excellent negotiating skills, good written and verbal communication skills, and strong mathematical skills with high attention to detail.

  • Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of payment plans and accounting procedures, along with familiarity with relevant office and accounting software.

  • Legal Awareness: Familiarity with state debt collection laws.

  • Behavior: Must exhibit patience and resilience when engaging with customers.

Compensation Package

  • Salary Budget (Monthly): N80,000 basic salary + N50,000 (based on KPI achievement) =N130,000 Total Monthly.
