Recovery Officer at First Bank of Nigeria Limited

For over 130 years, FirstBank has been Nigeria’s most enduring financial pillar, powering dreams from Lagos to London. Today, we’re not just a bank; we’re a movement of 9 million+ customers, cutting-edge digital platforms, and a bold commitment to sustainable growth. Behind every successful loan is a story of recovery done right. That’s where you come in.

We’re expanding our Recovery & Special Assets team and urgently seeking fearless, results-driven Recovery Officers to join us across multiple locations in Lagos and nationwide. If you combine street-smart negotiation skills with ironclad ethics, and you measure success by how many businesses you help get back on their feet, this is your moment.

Your Mission (Should You Choose to Accept It)

  • Take ownership of a portfolio of stressed, delinquent, and non-performing accounts.
  • Engage borrowers with empathy and authority: restructure facilities, negotiate realistic repayment plans, and recover maximum value with minimum friction.
  • Conduct field visits, asset verifications, and valuation exercises across your zone.
  • Initiate and follow through on legal recovery actions (demand notices, receiverships, auctions) when diplomacy reaches its limit.
  • Collaborate with lawyers, valuers, auctioneers, and law enforcement to enforce security and realize collaterals.
  • Prepare watertight progress reports, remediation proposals, and provisioning recommendations for EXCO and the Board.
  • Spot early warning signals in healthy portfolios and work with RMs to prevent tomorrow’s headaches.

This isn’t collections. This is financial resuscitation—turning red accounts green again.

Who We’re Looking For

  • First degree in Law, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or any numerate discipline (minimum 2:2).
  • 3–7 years of proven recovery, credit risk, or relationship management experience in a commercial bank or top-tier finance house.
  • Working knowledge of CBN prudential guidelines, bankruptcy laws, and collateral enforcement processes.
  • Fearless negotiator who can sit across the table from a CEO one day and visit a factory floor the next.
  • Data-savvy: you live in Excel and can build recovery forecasts that actually happen.
  • Clean driving record and willingness to travel extensively within your assigned zone.
  • Professional certifications (ICAN, ACCA, CICRM, LLM) are a strong advantage.

Locations Currently Open

Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, Ikeja, Victoria Island, Lekki-Ajah, Ikorodu, plus selected branches in Ogun, Oyo, Rivers, and Abuja.

What Success Looks Like Here

  • Consistently beating quarterly recovery targets.
  • Restructuring facilities that return to performing status.
  • Zero tolerance for unethical practices—integrity is non-negotiable.
  • Fast-track career path: top performers move into Zonal Recovery Leads, Special Assets Managers, and beyond.

Rewards That Match the Challenge

  • Competitive base pay + industry-leading performance bonus (the harder you recover, the more you earn).
  • Official car + driver, fuel & maintenance allowance.
  • Comprehensive HMO for you + family, pension, 13th-month, leave allowance.
  • Structured training at FirstAcademy and clear promotion ladder.
