Job Title: Insurance Underwriter

Location: Lagos

Description

  • We are seeking a data-savvy Insurance Underwriter to manage and streamline the risk assessment process for our digital insurance products.
  • You will sit at the intersection of traditional insurance and modern technology ensuring that our underwriting guidelines are robust yet flexible enough to support rapid customer onboarding.
  • Your goal is to balance competitive pricing with sustainable risk for our micro-insurance and credit-linked products.

​Key Responsibilities

  • ​Evaluate insurance applications (Life, Health or Asset) using both manual checks and automated scoring tools to determine risk acceptability.
  • ​Oversee the automated issuance of policies via our app/platform ensuring terms and conditions are accurately applied.
  • ​Ensure all underwriting activities align with national insurance regulatory standards and internal risk policies.
  • ​Work closely with the claims team to ensure that the underwriting data captured at onboarding simplifies the claims verification process.
  • ​Regularly review the performance of the insured portfolio to identify trends, high-loss ratios or potential fraud.
  • ​Collaborate with the Product and Tech teams to design new micro-insurance products and define the logic for automated underwriting engines.

​Requirements & Qualifications

  • ​Minimum of B.Sc. in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Statistics or related field.
  • Experience working with Underwriting Software or Loan Management Systems.
  • ​Ability to interpret complex data to make quick, informed decisions.
  •  3 - 5 years experience in insurance underwriting. Experience in Micro-insurance or Life Insurance within a tech-forward environment is highly preferred.​Professional certification is an added advantage.
  • ​Strong proficiency in Excel and data analytics tools.
