The Goethe-Institut Nigeria is currently seeking Freelance German Language Teachers (Honorarlehrkräfte) to join our teaching teams in Lagos and Abuja.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and conduct German language lessons at levels A1–C1.

  • Correct homework and class assignments.

  • Utilize the Goethe-Institut’s online learning platform for course delivery.

  • Conduct official Goethe-Institut examinations.

  • Participate in teacher conferences, training sessions, and professional development workshops.


Requirements

  • Must hold a Nigerian passport or a valid residence permit.

  • Native-level fluency in German (or C1 level for non-native speakers).

  • Relevant university degree, preferably in German as a Foreign Language (DaF)German Studies, or equivalent qualification.

  • Proven teaching experience in German as a Foreign Language (DaF).

  • Familiarity with current DaF teaching materials and learner-centered approaches.

  • Experience with or willingness to learn modern digital teaching tools (e.g. tablets, online platforms, interactive whiteboards).

  • Preferably familiar with Goethe-Institut examinations.

  • Willingness to complete Goethe-Institut training courses such as “Online Tutorieren” and “Deutsch Lehren Lernen (DLL)”.

  • Willingness to obtain the Goethe Examiner Certificate.

  • Proficiency in computer applicationsinternet tools, and Moodle learning platform.

  • Flexible availability, including evenings and Saturdays.

  • Strong intercultural competenceteamworkcommunication skills, and initiative.
