Nigeria Police Force Opens Portal for Recruitment of 50,000 Constables
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has launched a major nationwide recruitment drive to enlist 50,000 new constables into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). This initiative, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to bolster community policing efforts, improve national security, and significantly expand the police's manpower to address ongoing challenges.
On December 15, 2025, the online application portal officially went live, following announcements from various state police commands, including Sokoto. The recruitment process is designed to be fully digital, transparent, and merit-based, with the PSC emphasizing that no fees are required at any stage. Applicants are strongly warned against dealing with unauthorized agents or fake websites promising assistance.
Key eligibility criteria include:
- Being a Nigerian citizen by birth.
- Possessing a valid National Identification Number (NIN).
- Being medically, physically, and psychologically fit.
- Having no prior criminal convictions or financial issues.
The recruitment is divided into two main categories:
General Duty Cadre:
- Age: 18–25 years.
- Education: At least five credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO (including English and Mathematics) obtained in no more than two sittings.
- Height: Minimum 1.67 meters for males; 1.64 meters for females.
Specialist Cadre:
- Age: 18–28 years.
- Education: At least four relevant credits.
- Additional: Recognized qualifications or trade test certificates, plus a minimum of three years' practical experience in areas such as medical services, ICT, engineering, driving/motor mechanics, and other specialized fields.
The application window will remain open for six weeks, closing at 11:59 p.m. on January 25, 2026. All submissions must be made exclusively through the official portal. Multiple applications or any attempt to influence the process will lead to automatic disqualification.
Authorities have encouraged qualified Nigerians to apply, highlighting the opportunity to contribute to the country's security framework. The PSC and NPF have committed to a fair and credible selection process.
